Liverpool player ratings as Mohamed Salah excellent but one better in Tottenham win

Liverpool earned an impressive victory in Jurgen Klopp's penultimate home game in charge by beating Tottenham Hotspur,

Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott all scored before two late consolations meant the Reds secured a 4-2 Premier League victory on Sunday afternoon.

And here's how the ECHO rated the Reds after an entertaining encounter.

Gakpo: We wanted to put a performance on for the manager

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, goal-scorer Cody Gakpo said:

"It was a disappointing few weeks where the results were not what we wanted. We could have scored more. It was a good day.

"Everyone wanted to do their best in the last few weeks but it didn't work. We wanted to enjoy it, play for goals, defend together and it was a good result.

"It was a good result and a good header. I'm very happy, very blessed. That was one for my son.

"Everybody is aware of the situation [with Klopp leaving]. We wanted to show it for the fans but also for the manager and that's what we did."

Klopp delivers the goods

Liverpool might not be returning to the top of the Premier League, but Jurgen Klopp is in the mood to dish out his customary Kop end fist pumps as his Anfield reign draws to a close.

KEY EVENT

FT: Liverpool 4-2 Tottenham Hotspur.

Goals from Salah, Robertson, Gakpo and Elliott secure the points for the Reds despite a nervy final 20 minutes at Anfield.

Final plays at Anfield

Porro fouls Nunez. Free kick for Liverpool as we enter the final minute.

Keifer MacDonald

No goal!

Salah puts the ball in the back of the net but it's offside. Nunez went too early with his run.

Keifer MacDonald

Booking

Alexander-Arnold booked.

Keifer MacDonald

Added time

Seven added minutes.

Keifer MacDonald

Gomez defends well

Maddison fires a dangerous ball across the face of the box but Gomez is, once again, on hand to clear at the back post.

Keifer MacDonald

Action at both ends

Salah splits the Tottenham defence with a wonderful pass to Szoboszlai, but his effort can't trouble Vicario. At the other end, Gomez has just made a goal-saving interception.

Keifer MacDonald

Van de Ven takes aim

Van de Ven blasts a clearance into the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand. I'm sure that will have woken them up.

Keifer MacDonald

Final Liverpool change

Standing ovation for Harvey Elliott as he is replaced by Szoboszlai.

Keifer MacDonald

Wow, Trent!

Wow. Alexander-Arnold with nearly the Goal of the Season as he tries to catch Vicario off his line from just inside the Tottenham half. That would have been spectacular.

Keifer MacDonald

Anfield wants a penalty

Anfield wants a penalty as Salah is hauled to the ground by Skipp, but the linesman flags for offside.

Keifer MacDonald

How have Liverpool not scored?!

How has no one scored?! Elliott fires one across the box and both Gravenberch and Salah fail to divert it past Vicario.

4-2. 81 minutes played.

Paul Gorst

Goal stands. 4-2.

The goal stands, Richarlison is not offside. 4-2.

Paul Gorst

Offside?

Richarlison is able to find space in the area to lay it back and Son makes no mistake. Liverpool have switched off massively in the last 10 or so. It's being checked for offside...

KEY EVENT

GOAL! Liverpool 4-2 Tottenham (Son)

Surely not again?!?

Theo Squires

Right...?

Spurs fans rather bizarrely treating us to a rendition of, 'You lost the league at Goodison Park.'

Paul Gorst

Subs:

Here come Gravenberch and Nunez. Mac Allister and Diaz make way.

Paul Gorst

Back in it?

Richarlison taps home from Johnson's cross down Liverpool's left. 4-1.

KEY EVENT

GOAL! Liverpool 4-1 Tottenham (Richarlison)

Could they?

Keifer MacDonald

Elliott tries his luck again

Elliott plays a one-two with Diaz and tries to beat Vicario from range again. This effort, though, is rather tame.

Keifer MacDonald

You shall not pass

Alisson denies Son from close range after a cross from Richarlison. Offisde anyway.

Keifer MacDonald

Not quite for Maddison

Maddison chops back on his left foot but his effort sails well over the bar.

Keifer MacDonald

Two Liverpool chanages

Gomez and Bajcetic are on in place of Robertson and Endo.

It's Bajcetic's first Premier League appearance since the 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth in March 2023.

Keifer MacDonald

Triple Spurs change

Maddison, Richarlison and Skipp on, Kulusevski, Bentancur and Royal off.

Paul Gorst

Bacjetic on his way

Stefan Bajcetic is coming on for his first Premier League appearance of the season.
