Appearance[]

The Profit-Taker Orb is an orange-yellow, building-sized mechanical spider with four large legs capable of discharging lethal bursts of electricity, two small arms next to her comparatively tiny head and a massive central body. The top of her heavily armored carapace houses a massive mortar cannon while a turret is mounted on her belly.

Personality[]

Whereas most Corpus proxies are merely programmed to fulfill their purpose and possess little to no individual intelligence, the Sentient technology used to construct the Profit-Taker gives her a degree of sentience beyond a mere machine. In spite of her destructive capabilites and colossal size, the Profit-Taker behaves mostly like a child. She speaks almost entirely in rhyme and openly refers to the otherwise dangerous Tenno as dolls for her to play with, since their weapons are incapable of penetrating her shields. She spends most of her time perched on top of the Enrichment Labs she's supposed to protect, lazing around and only doing the bare minimum required of her by occasionally launching a missle at nearby Tenno if the alarms are raised high enough.

The only times that she does step down to take action are when Nef Anyo directly orders her to attack Fortuna and when she's sufficiently angered enough by taking away her shield-overcharge satellite and fired at by mortars, upon which she flies into a murderous rage and even stumbles over her own rhyming.

Biography[]

Vox Solaris[]

In the hopes of displaying his vast wealth and power for the entire Origin System to see, Nef Anyo had his debt-slaves in Fortuna, the Solaris, work until exhaustion to reactivate the ancient Orokin coolant tower located in the middle of the landscape above the city. Despite the warnings of the engineers that the coolant tower wasn't ready yet, Anyo tried to start it up anyways and became furious when it predictably did not work. To motivate the Solaris, Anyo decided to have fifty of low-efficiency workers repossessed, i.e. their entire bodies removed and their brains literally shelved until their debt is repaid, demanding that Solaris Floor Boss Eudico select and round them up at Fortuna's gate within the hour.

Unbeknownst to him, Eudico was once the leader of the Solaris United resistance group and caused him much trouble under the name Vox Solaris. While the years of continued oppression and the destruction caused by the Exploiter Orb had broken her spirit, this unthinkable demand proved to be the last straw needed for Eudico to become Vox Solaris once more. Instead of rounding up fifty of her own people, Eudico gave the Tenno that had arrived to aid them a bomb to throw at Anyo's troops outside Fortuna. Anyo recognized the synthesized voice of his old enemy and sent the Profit-Taker Orb towards Fortuna in a bout of rage. The Tenno attempted to fight her, but it quickly became apparent that none of their weapons could even scratch the metal monstrosity. Since a continued fight would just end up destroying the city, Eudico was forced to order her allies to retreat.

Nef Anyo left the Profit-Taker stationed outside of Fortuna for the time being while he goes ahead with the presentation of the coolant tower. Fighting the Orb was not an option and time was running out fast, so Eudico arranged for a K-Drive to be given to one of the Tenno, a hoverboard made by the homeless vent kids. With it, a lone Tenno could speed past the Profit-Taker, who didn't chase after them as she was ordered to guard the city. Undisturbed by an impossible foe the Tenno succeeded in sabotaging the coolant tower, providing Vox with ransom to barter for the lives of the Solaris. To avoid public humiliation, Nef was forced to comply with her terms and pulled the Profit-Taker back to the Enrichment Labs near the city.

Profit-Taker Heist[]

Solaris United knew that their chances of ever living in relative safety from Anyo are practically zero as long as the Orb Mothers exist, so Eudico, The Business and Little Duck, the leaders of the resistance, put their heads together to concoct a plan to rid themselves of the Profit-Taker Orb. Even with the help of the Tenno, three factors prevented them from doing any damage to the monster: The Profit-Taker's carapace was constructed from material usually used to build Corpus warships, an out-of-reach satellite continuously overcharged her shields, preventing even the heaviest of artillery from even getting to said shell, and on top of all that her shields were created using Sentient technology, which means they become resistant to any type of damage thrown at her.

Preparations[]

Each of these three factors had to be dealt with individually, otherwise their entire operation would only result in their own destruction. First order of business: Getting rid of the shield-satellite. This required obtaining top-secret satellite protocols, so Little Duck used her connections to get help from the enigmatic Quills of the town Cetus on Earth. When the Tenno arrived at their rendezvous point the Corpus were already there and had killed the Quill contact, confusing everyone present as the Quills never make mistakes. The fish bait present on the Quills's corpse clues them in to fish in the lake next to the body. Sure enough, the mechanical fish in the coolant lake contained coordinates to a Corpus base. While the Corpus wiped the databanks before the Tenno took the base, Eudico noticed that the base had a drone positioned suspiciously in the middle of nowhere. The Tenno stole the drone and it did indeed contain the satellite protocols they were looking for.

Next up on the list was finding a way past the Profit-Taker's Sentient shields. Even with the satellite out of commission, the shield's adaptive capabilities drastically reduce the effectiveness of any attacks. The Business was convinced he could figure out a way to slow down the adaptation long enough for the Tenno's weapons to get through, provided they obtain the harmonic schema of the shields that are held in a vault at the Enrichment Labs that Profit-Taker rests upon. The vault was locked by a triple key lock that are refreshed regularly, so fast action was required. Each key was held by one of three Corpus directors, which Eudico lured out by threatening to steal their money. Before the Tenno could use the keys though, Profit-Taker sent out two Ambulas proxies rather than deal with them herself, at the same time revealing her intelligence. The Ambulas' were quickly destroyed and the Tenno discreetly retreated back to Fortuna with the schematics in hand, though not before receiving a warning from the Profit-Taker.

Finally, it was time to get hold of some bigger guns to punch through the Orb Mother's armor. The Archwing weapons used by the Tenno in space combat fit the caliber needed, but even for the Tenno they were much too heavy to be wielded outside of the weightlessness of space. Thankfully, the Corpus just so happened to have developed something called a Gravimag that compensates for the extra weight. Unfortunately, the Profit-Taker was sitting right on top of where they were stored. The Tenno needed to distract it somehow to enable Little Duck to sneak in. Firstly, they used the protocols to get rid of the satellite, which the Orb immediately noticed and furiously demanded they give back. With the overcharger gone, the Business shot a mortar shell at the Profit-Taker, finally angering it enough to get down from the building and deal with matters herself.

While Little Duck snuck in to get the Gravimags, the Business used this opportunity to gather data on Profit-Taker's adaptive shielding by having the Tenno attack it, at the same time keeping its attention away from Little Duck. Once both goals were achieved they once again retreated and prepared for the final phase.

Destruction of the Orb[]

Now that they had everything they needed it was time to destroy the Profit-Taker for good. While discussing their strategy, Business noticed that she began to move to the middle of nowhere. With some hesitation, Little Duck revealed that the satellite protocols hadn't actually shut the satellite down entirely, just realigned it away from Profit-Taker. Realizing that all their work would be for naught if the Profit-Taker reached the new coordinates and regained its shield overcharge, the Tenno immediately headed out to the field.

Once they got close, the furious Orb Mother shifted her attention away from the coordinates and onto the Tenno, calling in an army of Corpus reinforcements and attacking with full force. Business supported them with artillery strikes and slowing down the shield adaptation, forcing it to remain vulnerable to one damage type at a time. Once the shields were depleted, the Tenno switched to their Gravimag-enhanced Archwing guns and fired upon the Orb. After sustaining some damage, the Profit-Taker launched some energy pylons to replenish her shields, but the Tenno quickly destroyed them before that could happen. Unfortunately Anyo's technicians figured out their bypass and started to realign the satellite, placing a strict time limit on the fight.

After a long and gruelling battle, the Tenno and their Solaris allies emerged victorious as the Profit-Taker collapsed from the damage it sustained. But as the Tenno began to salvage some components from the Orb, the satellite fully realigned and began to overcharge her way past capacity. Quickly realizing what was about to happen, the Business screamed at the Tenno to run for their lives. The Profit-Taker bid them good night and was consumed in a massive explosion, a final desperate attempt at getting rid of those victorious over it.
